Women's Health Tutorial

If you have never had a pelvic (gyn) exam then you must go through this tutorial and pass the quiz before your scheduled appointment with a health care provider. A confirmation email will be sent to the front desk staff prior to your appointment to verify that you have completed the tutorial and passed the quiz. This tutorial is intended to provide information about what to expect during the exam and a general overview of reproductive health including contraceptive options and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you would rather speak with trained peer health educators who can provide an overview of the information and answer any questions you may have, you may do so by calling the Center for Health Education & Wellness at 410-516-8396 to schedule an appointment.

If any of the following describe you, you should schedule a gynecological exam with one of the Health and Wellness Center's clinicians

  • You are 21 or older
  • You are or have ever been sexually active or considering becoming sexually active soon
  • You want to receive birth control from the Health and Wellness Center
  • You have noticed any abnormalities in your menstrual cycles, genitalia, or breasts
  • You are pregnant or think you may be pregnant

However, if you have already had an exam with a gynecologist at home, you may not need to schedule an appointment.

After you have your first exam, you should return about once a year for a checkup.
